ALSO, FOR GIRAREFERENCE:
France Axis Powers Hetalia; Equius hasn't yet grasped the concept of countries, mostly because this guy is one of the only ones he's met, and he has no desire to learn more about anyone associated with France. He kept dissing the troll race for 'cannibalism', whatever that is, and was basically such a passive-aggressive douchenozzle that even Equius can identify him as such. |
Aradia Megido Homestuck (OU); He couldn't immediately tell at first because hello god tier, but this is a rustblood Aradia Megido, and that is not acceptable. Aradia's very existence is puzzling and deeply disturbing to Equius, and so he's rather confused about her; obviously she's a rustblooded troll, which puts her lower than the grime on the floor of the breeding caverns, but she's also a god tier and, well, Aradia Megido. All the conflicting feels. |
David Lalonde Homestuck (AU 1); He talked to David once or twice, and he's always come off as a bit quirky, even by human standards. Often his ~biting sarcasm~ has left Equius legitimately insecure. But it seems in person that he's a bit less obnoxious, and maybe even nice company. Besides, he likes the cookies. |
England Axis Powers Hetalia; The other country Equius has met, and one of his roommates. This one is actually sane and tolerable. The two of them get on considerably well; even though England is the worst cook in paradox space and Equius knows this, he does have a lot of tea, and tea is a spectacular human invention that is worthy of the gods -- and therefore, the trolls. He holds a degree of respect for England solely for his incredible good taste and forethought in making something that is both A. delicious and B. original to the humans, as in not previously invented by the trolls. |
The Grand Highblood Homestuck (AU 6); An adult indigo-blood troll, and another of Equius' roomates. Basically, the Highblood scares him shitless. He spends most of his time devising ways to avoid the Highblood whenever he can, and the fact that they sleep in the same room does nothing to lull him into security. |
Eridan Ampora Homestuck (AU 1); Eridan Ampora. Well... to be honest, Equius isn't sure what to make of Eridan, either. The more that the two of them talk (because they certainly rarely did when the game rolled around), the more he discovers that this jadeblood is completely baffling, in every possible way. For one, he's actually nice to him? LOLwut. And he has those NICKNAMES, ARGH. No, his name is Equius, not Eq or Ekky or whatever (though he says that so much it may as well be his name), just... just no. The hemospectrum does not work that way, Eridan!!!!! |
kanaya maryam Homestuck (AU 1(; Kanaya Maryam is a mutant; by definition, she is the greatest atrocity that trollkind has ever produced, a creature whose blood falls so out of the spectrum that it can be likened only to the bright shades of candy. By definition, Equius should hate her guts. And he does hate her guts to some extent. But his idea of showing 'blood superiority' is basically sacrificing himself for her comfort, and no matter how grudgingly, he... might be willing to set aside her terrible crippling mutation, if it's mutually beneficial and is against a total lunatic HI FEFERI. |
Nepeta Leijon Homestuck (AU 6); Equius is still completely baffled as to how he could have ever fallen in with Nepeta as her moirail. Not just because of the fact that she was the Empress-to-be and he's not even a greenblood, but because she's just... so much better than him. She's so much stronger emotionally and physically. She can run and kill and basically can hold her own as a troll in society, and she's always so happy all the time and she doesn't afraid of anything. He marvels in her presence, really. God. --But recently... she hasn't been around. What's up with that...? |
Gamzee Makara Homestuck; Previously a greenblood, Gamzee is now apparently of the indigo caste. He seems even less capable of coherent thought than the other Gamzee, but now that he's so high up, there's no possible way Equius could bring that up. Even thinking about it is done briefly and in secret, when no one is looking. To make matters worse, Gamzee went soporless in the Labyrinth and turned on Equius, Kanaya, and Karkat. Kanaya and Karkat died by his hand, but of course, Equius was able to escape. Gamzee now holds a position right next to the Grand Highblood on the List of People To Avoid at All Costs. |
feferi peixes Homestuck (AU 1); AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH |
Pipit Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword; Pipit is a tall, probably older maybe-human thing. Well, he looks like a human, but he has pointy ears and a very odd yellow outfit which is too bright for any reasonable troll. He's also a good cook, which earns him several points in Equius' book. He seems like a nice, sensible person -- words that Equius wouldn't immediately associate positively, but hey, they haven't really talked much. Basically a therapist in a box. How long until the inevitable feelings jam...? |
Karkat Vantas Homestuck (AU 1); Karkat Vantas is a cerulean-blood in Equius' world, and fortunately he hasn't seen the other one, or he would most certainly flip his shit. But for now, he is suitably complying to all of Karkat's strongly worded requests, and nothing is beautiful and everything hurts. |
Sollux Captor Homestuck; The other yellowblood in the tower, Sollux seems to have some beef with Equius that he... doesn't really understand. It might have something to do with the little fact that he seems to think Bluekat is a douchebag, and Equius won't hear any of it. Also he seems to be accusing him of being a pervert? Not... not sure where that's from. |
Terezi Pyrope Homestuck; A tealblooded Terezi who Equius first heard about from Sollux, maybe his moirail? Whatever. She seems like a lot less of a psychopath than his Terezi, but then again, he hasn't spoken to her in person or for any length of time, so we may never know. |
Rose Strider homestuck (au); A harsh human girl who was once the roommate of Nepeta, his Nepeta, before she disappeared. She was the one to break the news that his moirail's possessions and indications of existence were gone from the tower. She delivered him sound advice, even if she was wrapped in bitterness and he wasn't quite ready to hear it. This tradition continued throughout several more encounters, and Rose has begrudgingly classified him as a 'friend' now; his sentiments are much the same. But it seems she now holds a degree of control over him; she's a human, so she's not below him. But she's clearly more confident than he is, so does that make her above him? Is it even possible for Equius to grasp the concept of 'level ground'? Perhaps his further conversations with Rose will let us find out. |

Externally, of course, he doesn’t seem much different. He still speaks with much reverence to those above him on the hemospectrum, regardless of whether they’re one or nine spaces above him. Likewise, he hates speaking with Terezi, Vriska, and Kanaya (the last one especially), because they are lower than even him on the system. It isn’t as immediately obvious, but he acts mostly the same; the change comes from the fact that Equius now has many more characters above him, when before he had only a few. Equius also tries to speak more like he would imagine a highblood should; his vocabulary is vast, even though he has a nasty habit of saying “Uh” all the time.
The most glaring effect on Equius has been his birth into the yellowblood caste; he still keeps his nigh-religious views on the hemospectrum, even though he now cannot enjoy any of the perks of being on the higher end of the spectrum. In fact, he firmly believes that he is not worthy of making any of his own decisions, or doing anything that sounds even remotely important – someone of higher blo—ahem, better qualifications should be doing it, not… not him. In fact, Equius sees himself as almost laughably pathetic in everything he does; sucking up to his hemospectral betters is one of his only talents, and whenever he tries to combat his usual “I am worthless, kill me now” state of mind, a second later he will chastise himself for allowing himself ‘pathetic shivering self-defense’. However, there is one thing that he will allow himself to pride upon, and that is not being ‘a sweaty meat-handzed brawling freak’. He’s only a regular freak, which is much less objectionable, in his opinion.
In one of his biggest throwbacks to both the True Equius and Sollux, the original yellowblood, Equius is a creature of paradox – and duality. As mentioned before, he completely detests trolls lower than him on the hemospectrum, most of all the mutant candyblood Kanaya Maryam. However, when Kanaya is forced to stay in his apartment for a few days while hiding from the Empire, he pulls out all the stops for her – cleaning her usually dirty clothes, fixing up her weapon, giving her the only ‘bed’ in the house, and generally treating her like royalty. He justifies this by saying that it’s a way to put Kanaya in her place by showing her how it’s DONE, but come on, that’s a really flimsy argument no matter which way you look at it. Adding more to the paradox issue, Equius apparently second-guesses himself quite a lot, and has difficulty picking sides – the RDV narrative notes that, concerning Sgrub, he is “as always, of two minds on the topic”.
He apparently has difficulty with dropping the constant stilted formalities, and even more so with picking up social cues; after giving Kanaya a particularly obnoxious comment on her competency related to the blood mutation, and receiving a sarcastic message of agreement in response, Equius was apparently pleased that she had accepted her station for once. Needless to say, he can provide hours of entertainment for anyone with a mean streak and some time to kill. This last point is where his moirail, Nepeta, comes in. Equius’ contribution to the moirallegiance was showing Nepeta that the hemospectrum wasn’t everything (in a strange, roundabout way, of course) and her way of returning the favor is by watching out for him, and ensuring that no one takes advantage of his very fragile nature.
Another prime example of his ‘fragile nature’: Equius has a pretty big issue with his perceived safety at any given moment. He’s almost always anxious for some reason or another, and it doesn’t take much to get him into full-on panic mode. Pretty much whenever things get too hot to handle, or when he needs to do something that he considers out of his league, he tends to go through several stages of mounting panic, and often it seems like he will flee a scene whenever he’s too scared. And most of the time, he actually is fleeing. But if there’s someone in that scene who he cares about – like, say, Nepeta – then chances are he’s going to keep watching until his psyche takes a total reacharound, and he pops up again later to throw a flaming arrow or something through your chest.
Abilities: Unlike most trolls who share his blood, Equius has absolutely zero psychic power; this means he can eat the mind honey without consequence, also unlike most trolls who share his blood. Nor, for that matter, is he terribly STRONG; as a matter of fact, he's pretty laughably WEAK, only powerful enough to carry around bags of flour for a short distance. This makes his life a pretty unfortunate one when the culling days come around. To combat this, Equius has taken up a few other hobbies; he's a very good shot with a bow and arrow, and what little money he makes for himself is spent on parts for his many robots. ...Well, either that or ingredients for food. Though of course this does nothing to help him in the eyes of the Empire, Equius is a notably good cook -- his specialty is baking, but he can also make a fantastic grubloaf. --A proper grubloaf, mind you, unlike how that brownblood makes it.
